Red Mage
Red Mage, a jack of all trades one may say. Red Mage has some pretty decent balance of offensive and defensive magic, Sacrificing Max MP of other Mage jobs and lower skill levels of Elemental and Healing Magic for Higher Enhancing, Enfeebling magic skill as well as being a lil tougher than a typical mage. They have some melee capability but no where near the offensive capability of a cookie-cutter Damage Dealer job.
They are primarly used as either Main Healers (convert fully restoring MP) or Buffers/Debuffer/Aux Healer (prime role of hasting and refreshing everyone while tossing in a cure if needed). Subs of choice are either White Mage or Black Mage. White Mage being most popular as it fits the party's needs much better. There are some instances that Red Mages make one of the best soloers in the game. Not by meleeing as some may think, but rather a combination of subbing Ninja for blinks, Kiting, and a mix of Damage over Time and an occasional nuke. These are usually long fights but those that master this technique are able to do much that others normally won't be able to do alone. Similarly, They also can be used as kiters for large events, however, Paladins and Ninjas are often used instead.
Personally, I have not tested solo capability of this job yet, so I can't give any personal experience as of yet, however, for party senerios I find this the same as any other mage job. Boring. When you get a proper cycle down as to buff a full party or to maintain survivability and magic conservation the used of Red Mage in a party becomes very easy and often find ways of keeping awake.
